Dympna Reed (Vice Chair of Governor)

My name is Dympna Reed and I am the Vice Chair of the FGB. I was a member of the IEB when the school was facing serious difficulties and one of the Co-Chairs of the SGB. Since our Good judgement by Ofsted and the successful appointment of Mrs O’Rourke, the school is going from strength to strength. I have also been Vice Chair of Governors at St Mary Magdalene school in Bexhill. My expertise lies in Early Years education and my career as a teacher and Local Authority consultant was in that field. I am retired from paid employment and find myself still very busy as a governor with focus on Health and Safety and Early Years in the school. I also chair Appeals Panels for the LA.

I have 3 children who all attended Sacred Heart School and then St Richards. Currently I have 6 grandchildren. I enjoy visiting National Trust properties and doing Zumba Gold and a pottery class.

Tony Campbell OBE KSG FRSA (Foundation Governor) Chair for Finance Committee

I was the Principal of St. Richards Catholic College 1988 to 2008.

During the last 15 years of my Headship the College was the highest performing  maintained Secondary school in East Sussex , being placed in the top 5% of schools nationally.

This resulted in the school being rated ‘Outstanding’ overall and in every single category of the OFSTED report 2006.

I have had prominent roles at East Sussex County level, being a member of East Sussex School Education Committee 1992 – 1997 and the Scrutiny Committee for Children’s Services 1997 – 2008.

I was also a member of East Sussex Standards Panel 1992-2008.

At present, I am a Trustee of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton,  Vice Chair of East Sussex College Group  and Chair of Sussex Coast College, Hastings.

In recognition of my contribution to education in East Sussex I was awarded an OBE in January 2007.

Following this I was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).

My contribution to Catholic Education locally and nationally was recognised in 2008 by a Papal Knighthood KSG ( Knight of St. Gregory) one of the highest and most prestigious a Pope can bestow on an individual.

Anne Barry (Foundation Governor)

I am Anne Barry and following a long teaching career in the Secondary sector during which time I served as a Teacher Governor.  I was then invited to become a tutor for trainee teachers on the Graduate Recruitment Programme.
Since ‘retirement’ some twelve years ago I have been active in both parish and school life - as Adult Formation Co-ordinator and for a time as a governor of a primary school.
I have also visited many schools across the Arundel and Brighton Diocese as an Education Volunteer for CAFOD (the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development).
Last summer I was invited by the Diocese to join the Shadow Governing Board and it has been a privilege to do so and to see the school continue to develop and flourish.
I enjoy developing my garden and gaining inspiration by visiting gardens across the country and further afield.

Rebekah Fagan Jones (Parent Governor)

Hello, my name is Rebekah Fagan Jones and I am a parent governor for the Full Governing Board of St Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Primary School.  I currently have one child at the school, and have had a relationship with St Mary Star of the Sea for almost ten years, from when my eldest child began his education there.  In that time I have witnessed, questioned and supported a number of changes in the school’s direction and leadership.  I am delighted to be part of the full governing body as the school enters a new chapter under the headship of Mrs O’Rourke.

My expertise lies in communications, having been a national newspaper journalist and then communications lead for a number of blue-chip companies both here and in the Middle East. As a governor my focus is on Parental Engagement and Health and Safety.

Most of my free time is spent running around after my two children, one of whom is now at St Richard’s, and who is a budding young actor.  I would love a few more hours in the day to read the many books I have piled up, and if possible visit the numerous art galleries and museums we are lucky enough to have on our doorstep.

Dianne Ryan (Local Authority Governor)

I have recently been appointed as the Local Authority Governor.

I retired as a Head Teacher of a special school in August 2019, after 27 years teaching. I have 3 sons, 2 of whom live locally.

I currently work part time as the Professional Officer for 18 Special schools in Essex. I am also working with the Teacher Training program in Essex as an external tutor.

I am interested in continuing my own learning and have joined the U3A. I also have time to follow my other interest of art and music.

I enjoy longs walks along the local beautiful beaches with my dog. I feel lucky to now live in this area and to have joined such a welcoming community as St Mary Star of the Sea. I am looking forward to working with the Head, staff, parents, and children as part of the Governing Body.
