Mary's May Procession
Thursday 6th May 2021
This morning I attended the service in the school playground to crown the statue of Mary as Queen of the May. As you know this tradition goes back a long way in our faith and praying the Rosary daily during May always continues. Fr Míċeál conducted the service and prayed with the children.

Representatives of the classes carried the 2 flower crowns on silk cushions and the children crowned the smaller statue and then the larger one. The school gave each child a fresh flower to carry to the large statue of Mary in the Prayer Garden at the front and they did so reverently and calmly. In fact, this gathering of the whole school is the first time this has occurred for many months. The children were impeccably behaved and very respectful in every way. Mrs O'Rourke explained to them that the plan is to have Mary ‘visit’ each class in turn this month and there is a shared book in which the children can write thoughts and prayers. The decades of the Rosary will be said daily.
It was a pleasure for me to represent the FGB on this lovely occasion and much praise to the staff for making it so memorable for all of us present.
